He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at
Epictetus
Behind the ego, our mask, there hides a person capable of being free from the externalities that imprison them. Are they willing to let their ego be embarrassed, ridiculed, and laughed at? Can they partake in this laughter and degradation with openness and acceptance because they are in total harmony with the life source that embodies their spirit? The life source is far more powerful than the usual identification of self with our child-like perceptional dissonance. The worst thing you could possibly do is take yourself seriously; fundamentally, you’re a hairless ape programmed by your need to reproduce and preserve life. Whether your occupational status is below or above societal norms, you’re just better or worse than other hairless apes at carrying out your primary root function. I do not doubt that most of my readers are fueled by their heart’s desire and entangled with their ego’s representation of self and self-worth. Thus, laughing at themselves in their mind means the potentiality that their mate will find them weak or incapable of defending their family against the predators that want to devour their children. Evolution not only evolved the human species but their direct competition for survival. It’s no longer a predator lurking in the tall grass; it’s Nancy who just commented on Facebook that she finds your political views disagreeable.
