Asia and Europe: distant recesses of the universe. The ocean: a drop of water. Mount Athos: a molehill. The present: a split second in eternity. Minuscule, transitory, insignificant.
Marcus Aurelius
Every morning you wake up, your back hurts. Your family members are two-faced. Your friends are self-absorbed. Your puppy keeps peeing on your favorite rug. I’m just spitballing examples of things out of our control that most people let ruin their short duration here on Earth. None of this matters. Nothing matters. Think of all the people who lived in pain, the countless familial betrayals, the self-absorbed friends and peeing dogs that have come before us. Are any of them here complaining, betraying, or peeing now? I didn’t think so. They were here nonetheless, and countless amounts of people wasted that brief experience worrying about those trivial matters and participating in toxic behaviors. Is that how you want to use your brief time here? Being a complainer, gossiper, poor example, and bad dog owner? Fill in your own blanks here. Create a Not-To-Do list and live by it. I advise that you put anything that is not spreading positive energies into the world on it. Appreciate your pain; this is what it means to be alive! Appreciate your horrible friends and family, for they have shown you how not to live! Appreciate your stubborn puppy who has given you an opportunity to practice patience and show yourself just how virtuous you are.
