The measure of intelligence is the ability to change
Albert Einstein
When I started writing this newsletter, I made a rule; I would only write about stoic writings. This quote made me think differently this time around, although I can’t speak for the future. It’s so easy to get stuck in our ways. As you get older, your brain loses plasticity, which makes it more challenging to create new habits and break old ones. Although, I don’t think this is the biggest problem we face. The ego prevents people from creating new neural pathways just as much, if not more. The confirmation bias of figuring things out without changing and improving anything about yourself tricks you into believing your bullshit will always work. See, I think what Albert Einstein was trying to portray here is simply this, if you want to become intelligent, have the capacity to change. But how will you know what you need to change if you’re never searching for opinions outside of your own?
